Main Purpose
The Occupational Therapist will work as part of a multi/interdisciplinary team, providing occupational therapy within a neurobehavioral model to individuals with acquired brain injuries (ABI). This role involves liaising with internal and external professionals, family members, and the individuals receiving support.
Main Tasks and Responsibilities
Clinical / Professional Practice
- Work within a specialist clinical area autonomously, utilizing and developing skills in neurological rehabilitation with support and supervision from a senior OT. Accept professional accountability and responsibility.
- Manage and prioritize a caseload of individuals with complex mental/physical health needs and/or challenging behavior, with support and supervision from a senior OT.
- Complete the OT process, using evidence-based and person-centered principles to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate interventions, under senior OT guidance.
- Address occupational performance and skill deficits, enabling individuals in areas such as self-maintenance, productivity, education, and leisure.
- Develop care programs, ensure effective handover to rehabilitation support workers or therapy assistants, monitor progress through data collection, and modify treatment to ensure the effectiveness of interventions, with support from a senior OT.
- Delegate tasks appropriately based on colleagues' competencies and take responsibility for handover, monitoring, and review.
- Use interpersonal skills and empathy to engage individuals and their families who may be resistant to rehabilitation or distressed, with guidance from a senior OT.
- Conduct detailed risk assessments, ensuring they are regularly reviewed, updated, and communicated effectively within the team.
Leadership
- Manage a designated workload, identify priorities, and manage time and resources effectively, under the supervision of a senior OT.
- Recognize, report, and address performance and practice issues in oneself and others.
- Support and challenge others to maintain health, safety, and security at work; report actual or potential problems and suggest solutions.
- Understand and work within the political and economic context that impacts service delivery, with guidance from a senior OT.
- Promote the profession and organization, and develop partnerships across organizational and agency boundaries.
- Contribute to clinical governance and quality agendas, including attendance at occupational therapy meetings and implementing agreed outcome measures.
Education, Training and Qualifications
- Diploma or Degree in Occupational Therapy
- HCPC Registered.
- Knowledge and application of occupational therapy assessments (standardised and non-standardised) & intervention.
