Getting set up with Payroll
Once you are registered with Merco, you will be assigned a dedicated consultant to support you 24/7 with your bookings. Your consultant will introduce you to our in-house Payroll Team who are here to help you with absolutely anything money related, and make sure you are paid accurately - and on time.
'I have never encountered a friendlier and more helpful payroll team than the one at Merco! I have worked for a lot of agencies in my time as a locum clinician - and its great to know you are all under one roof - even the smallest query is dealt with straight away and is never too much trouble’

Your Choices
Once you have submitted your timesheet and it has been checked (by a real human!) you will be paid the following week for hours worked. Our online diary management system allows us to cross check your bookings and timesheets in advance of being paid, so any queries can be dealt with quickly and efficiently, ahead of payroll.
You may choose to take advantage of our Early Pay feature which offers a same day payment service for a very small fee.
You can read more about Early Pay here and you are free to activate this feature at anytime during your employment with Merco.
Another important choice to consider is whether you wish to work through the Merco Payroll (PAYE) or through one of our (rigorously checked) Umbrella Payroll Providers.
We have a dedicated Merco Portal for Umbrella companies here which allows you to choose the option right for you. If you need help identifying the right payroll choice for your circumstances – your consultant is always on hand to help!
IR35
IR35 legislation which is also known as the ‘intermediaries legislation’ is a set of rules that aid in the determination of the tax and National Insurance a candidate working through an intermediary should pay, based on the substance of that working arrangement. These rules were originally introduced in April 2000.
Some of our clients will determine certain roles as "outside of scope of IR35", meaning you may be paid through your own Limited Company. This is subject to strict adherence to tax law, which is why we recommend speaking to a trained accountant who is able to assist clients with the off-payroll regulations. We will always do our best to provide you with the most informed choices when working with healthcare employers – and assess every role on an individual basis.
